PHOENIX -- Working the black worked out nicely for Bronson Arroyo. Enticing Houstons aggressive hitters by throwing to the corners and out of the strike zone, Arroyo pitched seven strong innings to lift the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 win over the Astros on Tuesday. "These guys are really aggressive and young, so I dont think theyd change their approach that much," Arroyo said. "It allowed me to stay on the outer half and get a lot of groundballs." Arroyo (6-4) matched Houston starter Brad Peacock through seven innings before the Diamondbacks scored two runs off Josh Fields (1-4) in the seventh. Hill hit a sacrifice fly in the inning and Cody Ross knocked him in with a double to right-centre after an error by Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar. Hill added a run-scoring double in the eighth inning to put Arizona up 4-1. Paul Goldschmidt also homered and Addison Reed worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save. Arizona has won six of eight after its latest rally-from-a-slow-start game. "Weve been pushing on, guys staying with their approach," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "A lot of talking on the bench and weve made some adjustments in-game when weve had to." The Astros have been superb on the road over the past month, winning eight of their previous nine, including the series opener against Arizona Monday night. Houston had no answer for Arroyo, though, managing seven hits -- three of those by Jon Singleton -- while going 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. "He was throwing the ball good," Peacock said. "Weve been doing a great job jumping on people, but hes one of the best starters in the game and we just couldnt get to him today." Arroyo has hit his stride since a spring-training back injury limited his effectiveness early in the season. The right-hander won his last outing, against Colorado last Wednesday, and has pitched well against the Astros, entering Tuesdays start 9-1 with a 2.05 ERA his last 12 starts against them. He laboured through the first two innings, working around six baserunners while throwing 42 pitches. The right-hander breezed through the next three innings before Matt Dominguez followed Singletons leadoff double by lining a run-scoring single through Arizonas drawn-in infield to tie the game at 1-all. Arroyo got some defensive help along the way, including a pair of strike-out, throw-out double plays and a nifty grab up the middle by Hill on a short-hop in the seventh inning. Arroyo allowed a run on six hits and struck out five. "Hes hitting his stride here, got on a pretty good roll," Gibson said. "He knows how to get guys out." Peacock won his previous three starts and was sharp in his first game against Arizona. Goldschmidt splashed a solo homer into the pool in right-centre off him in the first inning, but the right-hander allowed two more hits after that -- a pair of infield singles in the second. Peacock walked four and struck out three in six innings. "Peacock did a great job," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "Six innings, strong, he finally started to use the top of the strike zone, did a good job of keeping us right there." Notes: The Diamondbacks have hit a double in 23 straight games, longest since club-record 32-game streak in 2006. ... Peacock has pitched at least five innings and has yet to allow more than four runs in nine starts after opening the season in the bullpen. ... Houston LHP Dallas Keuchel will go for his team-leading eighth win of the season when Astros head home to face the Diamondbacks and RHP Brandon McCarthy on Wednesday. Dale Hawerchuck Jersey . Michael Grabner Jersey OTTAWA -- Two injuries have derailed most of Kaetlyn Osmonds rookie Olympic season, but she and her coach have managed to find a silver lining. Osmond said shes fully recovered from both a stress reaction in her left ankle, and a torn right hamstring, and is skating in practice better than at any other time in her relatively short career. And when the curtain comes up on the Sochi Olympics next month, Osmond, at least, will be fresh. "I think it will end up being a real advantage for her," her coach Ravi Walia said on the eve of the Canadian figure skating championships. "Some people are exhausted at the end of the season, and I think she wont be. Shes just getting better. This last month of training, shes just gotten so much better. And I really believe that she has a lot more in her this season to keep improving." The 18-year-old from Marystown, N.L., should be a lock for one of Canadas two Olympic berths in womens singles, and is Canadas most promising female skater since the retirement of Joannie Rochette. But a season that held so much promise for the skater who burst onto the international scene when she won Skate Canada in the fall of 2012 has been full of obstacles. She suffered the stress reaction -- a precursor to a stress fracture -- in August, and was off the ice for several weeks. Then finally back on the ice for Skate Canada in late October, she woke up the morning of her long program unable to put much weight on her leg. Tests determined it was a torn hamstring and she withdrew from the remainder of the Grand Prix circuit. "This whole year has been a big learning experience," said Osmond, who trains in Edmonton. Her goal this week is to show "that I can come back from anything." Walia said her recovery from her latest setback has been remarkable, and praised the teenagers positive outlook. "Shes had so many obstacless and so many setbacks, but whats been great is she has a good attitude, and whatever setbacks she had she would do whatever she had to to get back on track," he said.dddddddddddd "Even if she wasnt at 100 per cent, you could tell the motivation was there." "I was getting worried because of timeline," he added. "But each day she would come (to practice) and do whatever we had to do, and it would be successful each day. She got ready so quick." This seasons short program -- to "Big Spender" from the musical "Sweet Charity" -- was met with some criticism when she debuted it at Skate Canada. There were questions about whether the choice of music was too mature for the teen. She was referred to as "Canadas answer to Miley Cyrus." Both Osmond and Walia shrugged off the negative comments. "She knows her program is appropriate for her, she likes it and its exciting to do, so it didnt bother her at all," Walia said. "It was brought up to be something that it wasnt. Half the skaters out there are skating to music, that maybe where it comes from, might be a story that theyre not portraying. Shes skating to a 60s style dance. "It was a little surprising, it didnt necessarily bother me," he added. Osmond won Skate Canada Challenge -- a qualifying event for nationals that she normally would have skipped -- early last month, and now, with obstacles behind her, is poised to make her Olympic debut. "It just seems like everything is going really fast. Its exciting," said Osmond, who was eighth at last years world championships. "(Making the Olympic team) still hasnt fully crossed my mind, I think its still such a shocker to even think of the possibility, so I dont think it will fully register until I actually make it." Skate Canada will name its team for Sochi on Sunday.
