LOS ANGELES -- The Pittsburgh Pirates resume their chase in the National League wild-card race when they clash with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of their three-game series Saturday at Dodger Stadium.Pittsburghs Gerrit Cole (7-7, 2.94 ERA) will face Los Angeles Brandon McCarthy (2-2, 3.00 ERA) as the Pirates try to catch the Miami Marlins for the second wild-card spot. The Pirates closed to within a game of the Marlins after beating the Dodgers 5-1 on Friday behind home runs by Andrew McCutchen and Jordy Mercer. The Dodgers (64-51), who lead the wild-card race, remain a game back of the San Francisco Giants for the top spot in the National League West.Cole will be looking to bounce back from a 7-3 setback to the Cincinnati Reds last Sunday, particularly since he has experienced much success against the National League West. Cole, who starred at UCLA, is 13-3 in 19 career starts against the NL West, including wins in his last four decisions. Cole is 5-3 with a 2.93 ERA in eight starts on the road this season.Against the Dodgers, Cole is 3-0 with a 4.32 ERA in four career starts. At Dodger Stadium, Cole is 2-0 with a 4.05 ERA.Joc Pederson leads the Dodgers with a .500 batting average in only four at-bats.McCarthy had trouble locating his fastball in Sundays no-decision against the Boston Red Sox. McCarthy walked five for the second straight outing, threw two wild pitches and allowed two runs on hits in 3 2/3 innings. In his last three starts, McCarthy is 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA.McCarthy and pitching coach Rick Honeycutt worked on his mechanics this week and believe they solved some of his problems. We feel confident, and he feels confident, to make that start on Saturday, manager Dave Roberts said.McCarthy will need a solid performance to cool off the Pirates, who have defeated the Dodgers in five of their six meetings this season. McCarthy will also need to slow McCutchen, who has feasted on Los Angeles pitching.McCutchen, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI on Friday, is 8-of-16 (.500) with two homers in his last seven games at Dodger Stadium. McCutchen is hitting .412 with three home runs and six RBI in five games against the Dodgers, four of those Pittsburgh wins.Andrew had a very solid game, got a good swing off of the plate. Good to see, manager Clint Hurdle said. Hes worked hard, he had some good swings (Friday), liked the way he swung the bat, liked the way he attacked the zone to drive the ball.Any time a player can square up a ball here at Dodger Stadium and get it out to the opposite field it gets your attention. The ball doesnt carry well here at night. In four games against the Pirates, McCarthy has a 1-2 mark with a 4.74 ERA with 15 strikeouts and seven walks. He hasnt faced them since July 3, 2014, when he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.Although he hasnt given up any home runs, the Pirates are hitting .321 against him. Steph Curry Shoes Deals . Steph Curry Shoes Outlet .ca! Hi Kerry, Heres an interesting one. I know its common knowledge that all players are responsible for their sticks. We witnessed that when Zack Kassian hit Edmontons Sam Gagner in the face after a missed check. RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and left tackle Bradley Sowell got into a heated dust-up Sunday that resulted in both players getting pulled from practice.Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the fight was the result of Sowell shoving defensive end Josh Shirley to the ground earlier in a one-on-one drill. When Bennett got a turn to face Sowell, the two players mixed it up and ended up on the ground before they were separated.Hes just fighting for his own a little bit, Carroll said of Bennett. One of the young guys got knocked around, and he was standing up for him. Hes got a lot of pride. Hes an incredible competitor, but hes got to make sure he stays poised so he doesnt get himself in trouble. So we had a good illustration of that today. After the two players were initially separated, and it appeared the situation had calmed down, Bennett charged Sowell a second time. When teammates broke them up, Bennett tossed his helmet. At one point, Doug Baldwin tried to approach Bennett and calm him down, but Bennett then went after the wide receiver.Bennett and Sowell spent the remainder of practice on the sidelines. Afterward, they walked off the field together and appeared to be on good terms.Bennett got kicked out of a practice earlier in training camp. He said at the time that he understood the message Carroll was sending to the team.Theres a lot riding on this season for our whole football team, Carroll said. And we have to deal with that. We have really high expectations, and that can heighten the passion and intensity and all of that. Thats kind of something were kind of used to out here.ddddddddddddI think everything about everything is more intense than its been. It just seems like the focus has been there to get prepared for this season, and I cant say that we dont like it. We just have to manage it well and perform well. So far we need to do better in games. Were getting too many penalties, and we need to make sure that were doing right. I dont know if thats part of that or not, but were working on it to make sure that it isnt. Were very connected, Carroll said. Theres a respect that is here about competing and battling and that youre working to take it as far as you can and still respect the people across from you. And sometimes that line gets crossed a little bit. Its a very competitive world were in and a very competitive game we play. And these guys care with all their heart. So we have to learn how to deal with that and how to manage that well.Offensive line coach Tom Cable said the intensity can be a positive as long as it doesnt go too far.Theres parts of it that are good, but ultimately you dont want either one of them fighting or doing that, Cable said. And theyve got to learn how to manage that because that stuffs going to happen in the game. And if you do it in the game, youre going to get thrown out, and theyre going to take your money. So a good lesson for both [Sowell] and Mike. Both guys are wrong, and theyve got to learn to do right. And theyll do that. ' ' '
